How to Watch Sky Go on LG Smart TV [Step-by-Step Guide]

Sky is the UK’s largest pay satellite TV provider, and it has very recently started providing streaming TV services via its Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices. But that’s far from Sky’s first rodeo into internet-based television, as Sky TV customers have had complimentary streaming access to live channels and on-demand titles for over a decade.

The Sky Go app lets existing Sky TV subscribers enjoy most of their favourite channels live, plus hundreds of great films, TV shows, and box sets on-demand – all at no extra cost. It’s available for mobile devices, computers, and even game consoles, and on select devices, you can download titles for later viewing and access your Sky Q recordings.

If you have an LG Smart TV in another room and don’t want to pay separately for Sky Multiscreen (which may also require setting up a Sky Q mini or Sky Stream box), you might wonder if it’s possible to use Sky Go instead. We’ve prepared this informative guide to Sky Go on LG Smart TV Smart TV to tell you more.

Is Sky Go Available For LG Smart TVs?

With Sky Go, you can watch most of the channels from your Sky plan and on-demand titles on other devices, be it your Android phone or tablet, iPhone or iPad, Windows/Mac desktop or laptop, PlayStation or Xbox, or Apple TV.

Besides Apple TV, no other streaming media players or smart TVs support the Sky Go app, which, unfortunately, includes LG webOS televisions. It means you have to either order a Sky Q mini box (or, if you’re a Sky Glass customer, a Sky Stream puck) for your LG TV and pay extra for the Multiscreen/Whole Home add-on to enjoy your favourite Sky content.

Another way to stream Sky Go on the big screen is by connecting your PC or laptop to your LG telly using an HDMI cord. You can download the app for modern versions of Windows and macOS from Sky’s official site here. All you have to do is log in with your Sky ID details in the app, and you’ll have access to the live channels, catch-ups, and on-demand content.

Is There Any Other Way to Watch Sky GO on LG Smart TV?

Even when Sky Go isn’t available for LG Smart TVs, and if you aren’t a Sky TV customer in the first place, a relatively straightforward way exists for watching Sky channels on your LG TV – and it’s called NOW.

Think of NOW (formerly Now TV) as the over-the-top streaming alternative of Sky (both Sky and NOW are sister brands owned by Sky Group, after all) but without the hassle of signing up for a contract. The streamer offers “memberships” for different types of content for which you can pay monthly, just like your Netflix or Prime Video subscription.

Currently, NOW offers three primary memberships: Entertainment, Cinema, and Sports. All these plans primarily carry Sky content. Here’s more in detail:

If you have a 2016 or more recent LG Smart TV running webOS 3.0 or above, the NOW app should already be pre-installed and accessible within your TV’s Home menu. If not, simply navigate to the Apps or LG Content Store page, search for the NOW app, and click Install.

Of course, you must sign up for your preferred NOW Membership(s) to watch your favourite Sky channels and shows on your LG television, which you can do via nowtv.com on a mobile device or computer browser, then sign in to the NOW TV app with your account credentials. Alternatively, use these steps:

  • Press the Home remote button, then navigate to and select the NOW app in the Home menu options.
  • Head to the app’s My Account section, choose your desired NOW Membership, and click Join in (or Start Free Trial if eligible).
  • Fill in the mandatory fields with your personal details (including your email address) and set a password for your NOW account.
  • Accept the service’s Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy and click Continue.
  • Type in your billing information and payment details and follow the on-screen prompts to activate your NOW Membership.

And that’s it! You can now dive right into NOW’s offerings on your LG TV, including the Sky channels and on-demand titles your membership includes.

Note: Regardless of the membership you choose, you’ll see occasional ads in between on-demand shows, movies, and live sports. Moreover, the highest quality at which you can view the channels and streaming titles is 720p.By opting for the £6-a-month NOW Boost add-on, you can get ad-free streaming, enjoy select Sky channels and on-demand content in 1080p Full HD with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, and get streaming allowance on two additional devices.

Get Freeview

Sky Go lets users stream not only Sky channels but also other free-to-air stations, including ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5, something you won’t get with NOW. However, with most LG televisions having a built-in Freeview tuner, an aerial is all you really need to tune in to over 100 SD and HD channels, and that includes BBC.

Newer LG Smart TVs also feature Freeview Play (Channel 100), which brings over content from the UK’s most prominent catch-up streaming apps, e.g., BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5, UKTV Play, CBS Catchup Channels UK, STV Player, in one place – all for free.

The good news is that even if your LG TV doesn’t support Freeview Play, you can download the following catch-up players individually from the Content Store and enjoy your favourite programmes on-demand. Even better, some offer streaming access to live channels, so you won’t need an aerial to watch your beloved Freeview channels.

One thing to note is you won’t have access to any Sky channels over Freeview, except for Sky Arts, Sky Mix, and Sky News, to be precise. As for how to tune your LG TV to fetch the latest Freeview channels, here’s a video guide:

Tuning Out

Sky Go doesn’t support LG Smart TVs at the time of writing, meaning you’ll have to connect an Apple TV box, a PlayStation 5 console, or your laptop to your big screen to tune in to your favourite channels and shows on-demand via Sky’s complimentary streamer. We’ve also discussed alternative options in case you want to give them a try.
